“As above so below, as within so without, as the Universe so the soul.” - Hermes Trismegistus
This 2nd of the 7 Hermetic Principles states: of every principle that exists on the physical plane, there is a corresponding principle that exists in the Universe. In essence, nothing just exists on its own. I like to relate this to thoughts, as everything in the Universe is energy, so are thoughts. The Law of Thermodynamics tells us, energy cannot be created or destroyed, it only expands and shifts shapes. And so it is with thought. I’m sure you’ve heard there’s no such thing as an original idea/thought, that’s because it has already existed somewhere…here…or out there in the great “unknown”!
The Principle of Correspondence is telling us, there is no such thing as the “unknown”, because everything that is, dwells within you, and me, and your mom, and my dog, Dazey Mae! It is because of this Universal truth that I always stress to consult your inner being before anyone outside of you. You’ve already got all of the answers! To overstand the unknown, is to overstand the Self.
Within this Principle lives the mirror world, a world of pure reflection. All that exists is in direct mirror image of whoever is looking. You wouldn’t be able to resonate with a frequency or vibration if you didn’t first posses it yourself. Which is why I sometimes have to laugh when we look at our significant others, or parents, or whomever else as the “problem” in the relationship. Embodying this Principle is to say, these seemingly toxic people are, in fact, reflecting the very traits you possess and don’t necessarily like about yourself. If you start treating the world like a mirror you are giving yourself permission to get to the very depths of your subconscious mind, the belief systems that create your perception of this reality. Even if you’re not a religious person, perhaps you’ve heard this quote from The Bible: “Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth, as it is in Heaven…” Matthew 6:10. This is a segment taken from what is known as the “Lord’s Prayer”, and is an echo of the Principle of Correspondence.
An effective way to implement the Principle of Correspondence this week, is to treat every interaction you have as a mirror. Take note of your emotions (the markers of what is happening in your inner world), if something triggers you try and find the origin within yourself as to why you’re triggered, what is it that you may be masking and not healing? If something gives you joy/deeply resonates with you, ask yourself why. Maybe it’s a path presenting itself for you to journey down and get even closer to the answers you’ve been seeking! And above all, treat yourself with most care. Remember your outer reality is a direct reflection of your inner world. Make it beautiful, honor yourself.
See you for Principle 3!
